Two Worlds, One Life
Chronic Migraines, Janna
"I found it very difficult to start on my own project. As inspiration, I realized what stands out for me most is the contrast of days with and without pain. There is a contrast between a "good" aka, no migraine day, and a "bad" aka migraine day. The piece shows left to right the experience of a bad day and how it eventually leads to a good one. Bad days are in a dark room, under the covers. Colors are muted, I need to close my eyes, sleep, and disappear. I very much want to be alone. The guy with the nail represents where my migraines seem to stem from, this spot on my cheek that grows ever more painful.
On the right, you see a good day. I'm ready for anything, being with my husband at the beach, shopping, doing yoga. I have energy and life is colorful. I enjoy being with people and doing all of the things I had to put off from a bad day.
In the middle, you see a bit of a tug of war and a kite going out the window as I'm coming out from darkness into light. The butterflies also represent that change, that moment where I am re-granted my freedom."
