Small Headache #6
Chronic Headache & Migraine, Alexandria Levin
"A few years ago I started a series of small headache paintings. They all have red in them, and of course, red is definitely a color representing pain, as well as alarm. I think it's because red is the color of blood and/or having connotations of heat, as a hot color with more darkness and depth than orange. Reds have a bodily thing to them. The color green added to some of the headache paintings, such as this one, compliment the red, but also represent a brief idea of green lights alleviating headaches (which did not work for me).”
"In the process of painting these pieces, I don't start with a clear idea. I kind of just go for it and feel my way through it. I don't really know how to explain it any better than that. So I have a thought like, well, what does this feel like? ... When I go back into these pieces, as I paint in layers, I think how can I express this pain further? What are the shapes, what are the colors, what are the lines?"
