Chronic Back Pain, MC

Black and white painting of abstract black strokes in different weights and shapes. Represents chronic back pain.

“It’s actually taken me a while to accept the fact and I can tell now, I can feel the difference between the two pains to be able to accept that oh, yeah, I know there's some arthritis in there and I have to deal with that differently than I deal with the residual SI joint strain injury. They're completely different pains.

But by the time I got to this print, my back had wrenched in such a way that I was just in tremendous pain and it's what ended up showing up in some of this work is just the irregularity and the kind of messiness. And so this is actually weirdly partially an expression of the pain I was in after doing art for four hours. So the very, very very last print I did of the day. And that's why it made sense because the pain I was feeling is sort of embedded in this print.”
